A question related to today's "Commentary" column came up before the story went online. James Morris, a coach at South Plains College in Texas, asked where he might find the book, The Van Aaken Method.

"I loaned mine to one of my runners about 10 years ago and never got it back," he said. "Do you know any source for a replacement?"

Old running books are surprisingly easy to find. I went to the Barnes & Noble website -- www.bn.com -- and the Van Aaken dating from the mid-1970s popped right up as a special-order item.
