After Thoughts (follow-up to 11/2)
Recovery from a marathon is important, and you can recover only if you let yourself recover. You recover faster by resting than by running easily.
But runners can be a little or a lot compulsive. We get caught up in the almost-"cult" of keeping a streak alive.
It is nothing to brag about, yet some people hobble around for the sake of their streak. In the 21st century this type of thought and behavior is going to be looked upon as archaic, unwise and some type of addictive-behavior problem that is very self-defeating, negative, dangerous to health.
After the recent Honolulu Marathon, I rested for three guilt-free days. (Gary Fanelli, onetime 2:14 marathoner, Honolulu)
