Winter Wanderland (follow-up to 11/17)

I am looking out over our snow covered city under a beautiful blue winter sky and wondering how I can escape from the office to run in that magnificent environment. Winter running in the frozen north is a special treat that I would not forego for warmer climates, treadmills or indoor tracks.

Many of my better runs occur at minua-20 degrees [C.] along snow-covered trails. Usually the trails are in better shape than during the summer months, and there are fewer people, bikes and dogs.

Yes, we have to take precautions and dress up, but even on the coldest day I think of George Sheehan's comment that under my clothing my skin is as warm as running in Hawaii! Running is an outdoor sport, and winter running is just another ingredient in a great recreation. (John McGee, Edmonton, Alberta)
