Winter Wanderland

(commenting on December RW column) I'm a nighttime runner -- usually around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. After work I read most of my just arrived Runner's World, then set out with my dalmation, Sam.

What did I experience besides a good sweat and increased heart rate? A neighbor couple, brisk clean air, the little guy in a fedora who always smiles at us twice as we pass him, wood ducks, mallards and geese who guard the shallows as if to keep the ice away... and the moon.

This was not just any moon, but one half -sitting as a bowl in the sky with hazy clouds softening her modestly. She danced behind her veil on the glassy black lake, sometimes stretched like golden taffy and sometimes dramaticaly punctuated by ripples cut by ducks.

Yep, it was the same route again. Thank you for helping me appreciate it anew. (Sally Guillet)
